Team Coaching Walks

What is a team coaching walk?

A team coaching walk is a chance for your team to work on a goal that’s important to you, facilitated by experienced coaches.

We usually walk with teams in the countryside around Greater Manchester, or in the Peak District National Park.

It could be a 2-hour circular walk from a railway station within easy reach of central Manchester, all the way up to a full day in the Peak District.

What would we work on together?

The agenda is set by your needs as a team - so we’ll listen to you and shape the walk’s goal together.

Our experience tells us that team coaching walks are particularly good for:

  • strengthening relationships: embedding positive culture and increasing trust within your team - or between your team and others

  • generating new thinking: sparking innovation and creative problem-solving in your team

  • reinvigorating and rewarding your team, improving their well-being

Why are they effective?

Team coaching walks are proven to be particularly effective because:

  • They improve cognitive performance: being in natural surroundings helps us concentrate harder, think more broadly, and more systemically. We’re better at problem-solving, making us calmer and able to think more clearly - even if we’re not the biggest fan of being outdoors.

  • Walking has been shown to substantially increase our creativity, stimulating new neural connections, generating more new ideas.

  • They strengthen bonds and trust: walking side-by-side has been proven to increase the connection we feel to others, and is effective for reconciliation.

  • Walking in nature lowers our cortisol which reduces feelings of stress, improves our mood and helps us feel more positive. It is universally accepted as being good for our health and wellbeing.

What’s involved?

Our outdoor team coaching provides a facilitated space for your team to do fresh, creative thinking, in the outstanding setting of the Peak District.

Before the walk

We’ll arrange a virtual pre-meet to understand your specific goals and challenges, and we’d plan and create a bespoke day and location with those in mind.

The Walk

  • Meet our coaches for welcome and set the scene for the day with your specific goals and challenges in mind.

  • We’ll use the backdrop of Peak District scenery to help the team to clarify their thoughts, and extend the perspectives and ideas they find.

  • The team will walk and talk in pairs or threes, stopping at various points to reflect, connect and learn as a group.

  • Towards the end of the walk, we’ll support the team to converge on some agreed ideas and outcomes.

  • Head for a well-earned late lunch and further discussion to confirm outcomes, insights and next steps.

  • Wrap up and head home

After the walk

We also propose a post-walk meeting, to debrief on the outcomes that were agreed and to determine next steps.
